Kenneth P. Fallon,
III has
served as a director of Osteotech since
June 1995, and as Chairman of the Board
since November 2005. Since March 2004, Mr.
Fallon has been an Associate with Kairos
Partners, an investment firm and a stockholder
that owns approximately 9.2% of the Company's
outstanding stock. Mr. Fallon retired as
the Chairman of the Board of Axya Medical,
Inc., a Massachusetts based privately held
medical device company, in March 2003 and
was the Chief Executive Officer of Axya
Medical Inc., from May 1999 until December
2002. In 1997 and 1998, Mr. Fallon was President
of the surgical business at Haemonetics
Corporation. In 1994 and 1995, Mr. Fallon
served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman
of the Board of UltraCision, Inc., a developer
and manufacturer of ultrasonically powered
surgical instruments. UltraCision, Inc.
was sold to Ethicon EndoSurgery, a unit
of Johnson & Johnson, Inc., in November
1995. From 1992 through 1994, Mr. Fallon
served as President and Chief Executive
Officer of American Surgical Technologies
Corporation. Mr. Fallon was President, U.S.
Operations of Zimmer, Inc., then a subsidiary
of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company from 1991
to 1992. From 1985 through 1991 he served
as President of Zimmer's Orthopaedic Implant
Division, and from 1983 to 1985 as its Vice
President of Marketing. Mr. Fallon previously
served in positions of significant responsibility
with the Codman and Orthopedic Divisions
of Johnson & Johnson, Inc. Mr. Fallon is
also a director of Conformis Inc., a privately
held medical device firm. Mr. Fallon has
a B.B.A. degree in marketing from the University
of Massachusetts and an M.B.A. degree from
Northeastern University.
Sam Owusu-Akyaw
joined
Osteotech in July 2004 as President and
Chief Operating Officer and a member of
the Board. Since January 2006, he has served
in his current position of President, Chief
Executive Officer and Director. Prior to
joining Osteotech, Mr. Owusu-Akyaw served
as General Manager of Medtronic Midas Rex
and Vice President of Medtronic, Inc. from
2000 through June 2004, and Chief Operating
Officer of Medtronic Midas Rex from 1999
to 2000. Mr. Owusu-Akyaw was Vice President
of Operations of DePuy-Acromed, a Johnson
& Johnson Company, from 1998 to 1999 and
Vice President of Acromed, Inc. from 1996
to 1998. Mr. Owusu-Akyaw was Vice President,
BMS Productivity for Growth Initiative of
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company from 1994 to
1996. From 1977 to 1994, Mr. Owusu-Akyaw
served in positions of increasing responsibility
with Zimmer, Inc., then a subsidiary of
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. Mr. Owusu-Akyaw
has a B.A. degree in accounting and computer
science from Manchester College and an M.B.A.
in finance and operations from the University
of Houston.
Stephen S. Galliker
has served as a director of Osteotech since
March 2004. Mr. Galliker served as Executive
Vice President, Finance and Administration,
and Chief Financial Officer of Dyax Corp.,
a biopharmaceutical company from September,
1999 until his retirement in July, 2008.
He was Chief Financial Officer of Excel
Switching Corporation, a developer and manufacturer
of open switching platforms for telecommunications
networks, from July 1996 to September 1999,
and was Excel's Vice President, Finance
and Administration from September 1997 to
September 1999. Mr. Galliker was employed
by UltraCision, Inc., a developer and manufacturer
of ultrasonically powered surgical instruments
from September 1992 to June 1996. At UltraCision,
Inc., Mr. Galliker was Chief Financial Officer
and Vice President of Finance until November
1995 and Chief Operating Officer from December
1995 to June 1996. In addition, Mr. Galliker
has been a director of RXi Pharmaceuticals,
a publicly held biopharmaceutical company,
since 2007. Mr. Galliker has a B.S.B.A.
in management and finance from Georgetown
University and an M.B.A. from the University
of Chicago.
Cato T. Laurencin,
M.D., Ph.D.
has served as a director
of Osteotech since September 2008. Since
August 2008, Dr. Laurencin has been the
Vice President for Health Affairs and the
seventh dean of the School of Medicine at
the University of Connecticut. At the University
of Connecticut, Dr. Laurencin also holds
the Albert and Wilda Van Dusen Endowed Chair
in Academic Medicine and is a Distinguished
Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. From February
2003 until August 2008, Dr. Laurencin was
the Lillian T. Pratt Distinguished Professor
and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic
Surgery at the University of Virginia. Dr.
Laurencin also was designated a University
Professor by the President of the University
of Virginia. Prior to February 2003, Dr.
Laurencin held various positions of increasing
responsibility at Drexel University, including
the Helen I. Moorehead Distinguished Professor
of Chemical Engineering, Vice Chairman of
the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and
the Director of Shoulder Surgery, and at
MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine, including
Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
and Research Professor of Pharmacology and
Physiology. Dr. Laurencin has a B.S.E. degree
in chemical engineering from Princeton University
and earned his medical degree from Harvard
Medical School. Dr. Laurencin also has a
Ph.D. in biochemical engineering/biotechnology
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Laurencin has been named to America’s
Top Doctors and America’s Top Surgeons,
and is a Fellow of the American Surgical
Association, the American College of Surgeons,
the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
and the American Institute for Medical and
Biological Engineering, and an International
Fellow in Biomaterials Science and Engineering.
Dr. Laurencin sits on the National Science
Foundation’s Advisory Committee for Engineering,
and has served both on the National Science
Board of the Food and Drug Administration
and the National Advisory Council for Arthritis,
Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases at National
Institutes of Health. Dr. Laurencin is a
member of the Institute of Medicine of the
National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Laurencin’s
research involves tissue engineering, biomaterial
science and nanotechnology and he was recently
honored by Scientific American Magazine
as one of the top 50 innovators of 2007
for his technological work in the regeneration
of knee tissue. Dr. Laurencin has been widely
published in scholarly journals and holds
more than twenty U.S. patents.
Robert J. Palmisano
has served as a director of Osteotech since
March 2005. Mr. Palmisano is currently the
President and Chief Executive Officer of
ev3, Inc., a medical device company focused
on catheter-based technologies for the endovascular
treatment of vascular diseases and disorders.
From November 2007 until April 2008, Mr.
Palmisano was a venture partner with SV
Life Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts.
From April 2003 until April 2008, Mr. Palmisano
was the President, Chief Executive Officer
and a director of IntraLase Corp., a company
engaged in the design, development and manufacture
of laser products for vision correction,
which was acquired by Advanced Medical Optics,
Inc. in April 2007. Prior to joining IntraLase,
from April 2001 to April 2003, Mr. Palmisano
was the President, Chief Executive Officer
and a director of MacroChem Corporation,
a development stage pharmaceutical corporation.
From April 1997 to January 2001, Mr. Palmisano
served as President and Chief Executive
Officer and a director of Summit Autonomous,
Inc., a global medical products company
that was acquired by Alcon, Inc. in October
2000. Prior to 1997, Mr. Palmisano held
various executive positions with Bausch
& Lomb Incorporated, a global eye care company.
In addition, Mr. Palmisano has been a director
of OraMetrix, Inc. since October 2005; director
of LenSx Lasers Inc. since February 2008;
director of I-Therapeutix Inc. since March
2008; and ev3, Inc. since April 2008. Mr.
Palmisano has a B.A. degree in Political
Science from Providence College.
James M. Shannon
has served as
a director of Osteotech since March 2007.
Since June 2002, Mr. Shannon has been the
President and Chief Executive Officer of
the National Fire Protection Association
(the "NFPA"), an international organization
which is the world's leading advocate for
fire prevention, providing and developing
codes and standards, research, training
and education. From 1991 until June 2002,
he was Senior Vice President and General
Counsel of NFPA. Formerly, Mr. Shannon was
the Attorney General of the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts from 1987 to 1991 and a
Senior Partner at the law firm of Hale &
Dorr from 1985 to 1987. From 1979 to 1985,
Mr. Shannon represented the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives,
where he served as a member of the Ways
and Means Committee for six years and served
on the Trade, Health and Social Security
Subcommittees. Mr. Shannon has a B.A. degree
from Johns Hopkins University and a J.D.
from George Washington University.
Robert M. Wynalek
joined Osteotech in September 2004 and was
elected President Domestic in April 2006.
From September 2004 to April 2006, Mr. Wynalek
served as Senior Vice President Sales &
Marketing. Mr. Wynalek has more than 26
years of sales, marketing and general management
experience in the medical device and related
industries. Mr. Wynalek served as Vice President
of Marketing for Medtronic Powered Surgical
Solutions from April 1999 until September
2004, and as Director, Powered Surgical
Systems, for Sofamor Danek Group, from June
1996 until April 1999. From September 1990
until June 1996 Mr. Wynalek served in positions
of increasing responsibility with Smith
& Nephew Orthopaedics. From June 1981 until
September 1990 Mr. Wynalek held positions
with Becton Dickinson and Company and Lever
Brothers Company. Mr. Wynalek has a B.S.B.A.
in Marketing from Bowling Green University.
Mark H. Burroughs
has served as the Company's Executive Vice
President and Chief Financial Officer since
January 2006. Mr. Burroughs also serves
on the Finance Committee of the American
Association of Tissue Banks since 2004.
Mr. Burroughs joined Osteotech in November
2000 as Vice President Finance and Treasurer.
Prior to joining Osteotech, Mr. Burroughs
was Senior Vice President, Finance for MEDIQ/PRN
Life Support Services, Inc. During his nine-year
tenure with MEDIQ/PRN, from November 1992
to October 2000, Mr. Burroughs served in
a variety of executive level capacities
in finance, operations, business development
and mergers and acquisitions. Previously,
Mr. Burroughs held positions of increasing
responsibility for nine years with Deloitte
& Touche. Mr. Burroughs is a Certified Public
Accountant and has a B.S. in accounting
from Montclair State University.
Robert W. Honneffer
joined Osteotech in September 2004 and was
elected Executive Vice President, Global
Operations in January 2009. From April
2006 until January 2009, he served as Senior
Vice President Operations. From December
2004 to April 2006 Mr. Honneffer served
as Vice President Operations and from September
2004 to December 2004 he served as Vice
President Supply Chain & Distribution. Mr.
Honneffer has over 30 years of diversified
medical device experience. Immediately prior
to joining Osteotech, Mr. Honneffer served
as Director of Customer Services and Technical
Support at Medtronic Powered Surgical Solutions.
Prior to Medtronic, Mr. Honneffer held positions
in business development and general management
with CASurgica Inc., OrtoMaquet AG, and
Unique Instruments Inc. From 1973
until 1997, Mr. Honneffer held various positions
of increasing responsibility with Zimmer,
Inc., then a division of Bristol-Myers Squibb
Inc. Mr. Honneffer has an M.S. in
Business Administration from St. Francis
College and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
from Youngstown State University.
Robert C. Cohen
joined Osteotech in January 2009 as the
Senior Vice President of Tissue Engineering.
Mr. Cohen has 25 years of experience in
the medical technology industry with a focus
on product development for orthopedic devices
and related biologics. Prior to joining
Osteotech, Mr. Cohen served as Chief Technology
Officer at Pipeline Biomedical Holdings,
a medical product and technology development
company. Before this, Mr. Cohen served as
the President of Zimmer Spine, Inc., a spinal
products company; he has also served as
the General Manager/Vice President, Research
and Development at Zimmer Trabecular Metal
Technology, Inc., a company focused on orthopedic
reconstructive prosthetic and spinal implant
systems, bone replacements and musculoskeletal
research. Before these roles, Mr. Cohen
was the Vice President, Research and Development
at Implex Corp., a reconstructive, spinal
and trauma implant and surgical instrumentation
developer. Mr. Cohen earned a Master of
Science in Engineering Management, a Master
of Science in Mechanical Engineering and
a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
all from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Mr. Cohen has 25 patents and 35 publications
to his credit.
Michael P. McCarthy
joined Osteotech in January 2009 as the
Senior Vice President of Sales. Mr. McCarthy
has more than 30 years of diversified sales
and management experience with medical technology
products. Prior to joining Osteotech, Mr.
McCarthy served as Chief Business Officer
of Pipeline Biomedical Holdings, a medical
product and technology development company.
Before this, Mr. McCarthy was President
and CEO at Endius Inc., a minimally invasive
surgical spine device company. Mr. McCarthy
has also served as the global Vice President
of Sales and Marketing for Implex Corp.,
a reconstructive, spinal, trauma and sports
medicine developer. Before Implex, Mr. McCarthy
was a principal at Oxford Medical Inc.,
the largest independent sales distribution
organization for the Johnson & Johnson orthopedic
product portfolio. Mr. McCarthy began his
career in the industry at Johnson & Johnson
where he held a variety of corporate orthopedic
sales and marketing positions. Mr. McCarthy
holds a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration from Villanova University.
Mohamed Attawia, M.D. has served as the Company's
Vice President, Applied Development since
May, 2008. Dr. Attawia joined Osteotech
in January, 2007, as Senior Director of
Product and Business Development. Prior
to joining Osteotech, Dr. Attawia was a
Principal Scientist and the Disc Program
Leader at Depuy Biologics, Johnson & Johnson.
Dr. Attawia is a visiting Research Associate
Professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering,
Science and Health Systems at Drexel University.
Dr. Attawia has many years of experience
in industry and education. Dr. Attawia earned
his M.D. degree at Cairo University College
of Medicine (Cairo, Egypt) and his Masters
Degree in Biomedical Sciences from Northeastern
University (Boston, MA). Dr. Attawia spent
two years as a postdoctoral fellow at MIT-Harvard
Division of Health Sciences and Technology
(HST) before joining Allegheny University
as an Assistant Professor. Later, Dr. Attawia
was appointed as a Research Associate Professor
in the Department of Chemical Engineering
at Drexel University. Dr. Attawia is interested
in applying new biological technology in
treating various orthopedic disorders. Dr.
Attawia has many publications and 3 U.S.
issued patents and 37 patent applications
in this field and in the area of musculoskeletal
disorders.
Greg Cannedy
joined Osteotech in May, 2006 as the Senior
Director, Quality Assurance and Regulatory
Affairs and was elected Vice President,
Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs &
Good Tissue Practices in May, 2007. Prior
to joining Osteotech, Mr. Cannedy has over
20 years in the areas of regulatory affairs,
quality systems, compliance and clinical
affairs. Mr. Cannedy has consulted to both
the IVD and medical device industries. Mr.
Cannedy served as the Director, Regulatory
Affairs for Medtronic Powered Surgical Solutions,
and as a Senior Regulatory/Clinical Affairs
Principle at DePuy-Acromed (a Johnson &
Johnson Company). Mr. Cannedy was a sales
representative for API and has held various
clinical laboratory positions. Mr. Cannedy
holds an EMBA from Cleveland State University
and has a Bachelor's of Science in Medical
Technology from Old Dominion University.
Donna A. Haag
has served as the Company's Vice President
Supply Chain since April 2006. Ms. Haag
joined Osteotech in July 1989, originally
as Operations Manager and held the positions
of Director Operations and Senior Director
Operations through October 1997. From October
1997 through December 2000, Ms. Haag held
the position of Senior Director Operations
Engineering and Technology. From January
2001 through June 2004, Ms Haag held the
position of Senior Director New Business
Development. From June 2004 through December
2004 she held the position of Senior Director
Marketing and from January to April 2006
she served as Vice President Supply Chain
and Distribution. Prior to joining Osteotech,
Ms. Haag was a Project Manager for the Technical
Operations Division of E.R. Squibb & Sons.
Ms. Haag has a B.S.E. degree from the University
of Pennsylvania and a M.S. degree in management
science from Stevens Institute of Technology.
Roman Hitchev,
M.D.,
C.P.T.C., Vice President International
and Managing Director and President
OsteoCentre Bulgaria, joined Osteotech
in May 2002. Prior to joining Osteotech,
Dr. Hitchev was the Executive Director
of the Lions Eye and Tissue Bank in
Washington, Maryland and Virginia. Dr.
Hitchev has over 15 years experience in
organ and tissue procurement. In 2004
Dr. Hitchev was elected President of the
Bulgarian Association of Tissue Banks
and in 2005 was elected as a Board
Member of the European Association of
Tissue Banks (EATB) and subsequently
elected President of the 15th Congress
of the EATB. Dr. Hitchev is a member of
the American Association of Tissue
Banks, National Association of
Transplant Coordinators and the American
College of Physician Executives. Dr.
Hitchev has an M.D. degree from the
Varna Medical School and since 1998 has
been board certified as a Certified
Transplant Procurement Coordinator by
the American Board for Transplant
Certification. In 2009 Dr. Hitchev was
elected as President Elect of the
European Association of Tissue Banks.
Kai H. Lo
joined Osteotech in August 2005 as Vice
President/Controller Domestic Operations.
In 2008, Mr. Lo assumed the position of
General Manager, Collagen and Vice President,
Business Planning & Enterprise Information
Systems. Prior to joining Osteotech, Mr.
Lo was Division Controller for Medtronic
Midas Rex from 2001 through August 2005.
From 1999 through 2001 Mr. Lo held the position
of Corporate Controller at Saltmine, a privately
held web development and consulting company.
Prior to 1999, Mr. Lo held various positions
of responsibility in diverse companies and
industries, including DePuy AcroMed, The
Wilkinson Company and Nationwide Insurance.
Mr. Lo has a B.S. in Finance and an M.B.A.
in Finance and International Business from
The Ohio State University as well as an
MA in Economics from The Cleveland State
University.
Xavier Rego has served as the Company's Vice President,
Global Marketing since November, 2008.
From May, 2008, Mr. Rego held the position
of International Marketing and International
Sales Administration. Mr. Rego joined
Osteotech in January, 2007 as Director,
International Marketing. Mr. Rego has over
18 years of sales, marketing and business
development experience in medical device
and related industries, and in the Domestic
market as well as in the International markets.
Mr. Rego held various positions of responsibility
in the Interventional Cardiology and Generic
Drugs industries, including Boston Scientific
and Pliva. Mr. Rego also served as Director,
Global Marketing for Zimmer, Inc., as well
as other various positions of increasing
responsibility with Zimmer, Inc. Mr.
Rego has an M.D. from the University of
Barcelona and an M.B.A. in International
Business, also from Barcelona.
Martin Rexroad
joined Osteotech on April 9, 2007 as Vice
President, Human Resources. Prior to joining
Osteotech, Mr. Rexroad served as Vice President,
HR Service Center at New York Life Insurance
Company where he was responsible for Recruiting,
Talent Management Support, Benefits Administration,
Payroll, HR Systems, and Project Management.
Prior to joining New York Life Insurance
in 2005, Mr. Rexroad worked for Altria Corporate
Services, Inc. and Philip Morris USA for
over 17 years. At Altria Corporate Services,
Inc., Mr. Rexroad served as Director, HR
Development where he was a key team member
responsible for designing and deploying
a global talent management system and managing
a global support organization. At Philip
Morris USA, Mr. Rexroad was Director Strategic
Staffing; Director, HR Decision Support
- Northeast Sales Region; Manager, HR Operations;
and Labor Relations Specialist. Mr. Rexroad
also worked in Management and Organization
Development, Compensation and Benefits.
Mr. Rexroad is a member of the Society of
HR Management and the HR Planning Society.
Mr. Rexroad has a M.S. in Human Resources
and Labor Relations and a B.S. in Business
Management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute
and State University.
Larry Shimp, Ph.D.
has served as the Company's Principal Technology
Officer since May, 2008. Dr. Shimp joined
Osteotech in May of 1992 as Senior Director,
Ceramics and Coatings, when his then current
employer, CAM Implants, was acquired by
Osteotech. From 1998 to 2006, Dr. Shimp
held the position of Senior Director of
Process Development, and from 2006 to April
2007 he served as Senior Director of Technology.
Before joining Osteotech, Dr. Shimp held
various positions starting with FMC Corporation
in the Inorganic Chemicals Division as a
Scientist, then at Coors Biomedical as Manager
of R&D, and finally at CAM Implants as Director
of R&D. Degrees include a Ph.D. in Chemistry
from MIT, and a B.A. in Chemistry from Northwestern
University.
